In the 1920’s, Turkish writer Cevat Sakir took up the fisherman’s life and to introduce friends to the wonders of the Turquoise Coast, he took them cruising o a gulet. They spent their time as you will, enjoying shipboard life, feasting on fresh fish, swimming in turquoise waters, and exploring archaeological sites, picturesque villages, and undisturbed islands. Ever since, gulets have been associated with the “Blue Voyage”.
That’s life aboard a traditional Turkish gulet, a wide-bodied craft hand-built by shipwrights on the Mediterranean and western Black Sea coasts. Wooden gulets offer roomy cabins, ample deck space. The air-conditioned cabins are well-appointed and spacious, with en suite shower rooms. Your crew are not only expert sailors, there is a fine cook among them. Usually, you will sail for up to four hours each day, with the rest of the time spent moored in a secluded sandy cove or at local harbours; with the chance to explore the adjoining town or village. There are a number of ancient sites that are only accessible by sea, others lying submerged in crystal clear waters and more still that are within easy driving distance.
Gulets offer the most relaxing way to see of the loveliest places in Turkey, whether combined with overland trip or as an unforgettable aquatic vacation.
